Catania

The Siragusa Guitars Catania Harp Guitar is a 21-string harp guitar that has a dreadnought-style six-string guitar combined with a seven-string bass harp and an eight-string treble harp. This harp guitar is based on the acclaimed 1986 Sullivan/Elliot 20-String Concert Harp Guitar, but with several significant modifications including:

  • 14 fret neck-to-body 6-string guitar component (Sullivan/Elliot has 12 fret neck-to-body)
  • seven bass harp strings (Sullivan/Elliot has six bass strings)
  • redesigned bridge assembly to accommodate longer neck and additional bass harp string
  • use of one type of tuning key for all strings (Sullivan/Elliot has a combination of guitar tuners and banjo tuners)
  • redesigned headstock that can accommodate future installation of sharp levers for the bass and treble harps (not shown in photos)

Description

The Catania Harp Guitar shown here has a solid spruce top and Tasmanian Myrtle back and sides. Future Catania builds will likely have different back and sides and feature details depending upon customer requirements and tonewood availability.

It also has an L.R. Baggs Element Active System (VTC) under-saddle pickup for both the bass and treble harps. The six-string guitar component has an L.R. Baggs M1 Active Body-Sensitive Active Magnetic Pickup. There is a separate output for all three pickups, which can be fed into a multi-channel preamp mixer.
